What are fashion shows and trunk shows?

As you probably know, fashion shows are special events that communicate the story of your line. They are usually co-sponsored by a vendor. Fashion shows take a great deal of advanced planning involving booking models and fittings and arranging for a runway, scenery, lighting, microphones, music, seating and assistants.
Clothes are grouped according to styling, color or other visual aspects. Models and music are selected to complement the clothes and set a mood. A fashion show can cost from $10,000-$500,000. Because of the cost fashion shows are usually reserved for charity events, and stores to look for co-sponsors to share cost.
Trunk shows are done in cooperation with a single vendor and are a popular way to sell expensive collections. The designer usually travels from store to store with the collection, which is usually shown on models in the designer collections department. Some designers and retailers do 50% of their total business through trunk shows.
