Being a Fashion Designer

Hey guys, I’m back to writing tutorials, so here are some concepts you must bear in mind when evolving your point of view of fashion design.
1) Stay focused, having a focused point of view is essential. Sometimes it isn’t the design that’s necessarily new, but how it’s framed.
2) Be Well rounded, The industry demands designers who can create something that is relevant to today and aesthetically in demand, but also who understands the life style and motivations of their customers.
3) Straddle two worlds, keep one foot on the market’s needs and one foot on your identity as an artist. Designers don’t work well in a bubble, and need to know where the market may sway. yet they must always remain consistent to their voice to maintain customer loyalty.
4) Build your skills, broad design knowledge and vocabulary will allow you to solve problems with whichever techniques will be most successful. Design is, on some levels, problem solving.
5) Keep up with new technology, often new material and methods of production are developed for other purposes, then re-appropriated by the fashion world to create new contexts, and innovations in fashion design.
6) Understand relevancy, maintain a high degree of content and context in your work through historical, cultural, societal, political and economic observations.
